Plan Review

In the site development plan review process, a Fire Protection Analyst evaluates a site's accessibility for emergency vehicles, as well as fire hydrant location and proposed building construction (new and renovation). This review will occur concurrently with Public Works Engineering and other city departments. Prior to submitting, applicants are encouraged to schedule a pre-submittal consultation.

Plans related to Building Permit Applications will be examined for a building's or an occupancy's compliance with the Life Safety Code, the Georgia Accessibility Code, the State Fire Codes, and any other applicable city ordinances.

The Fire Marshal's Office is the permitting authority for fire and life safety protection systems. The examiner will review plans and calculations for fire alarm, fire sprinkler, in-building emergency responder radio communications systems, kitchen hood vent systems and their extinguishing systems, and alternative fire protection systems in commercial applications; fire protection systems must be permitted separately from the main building permit. New residential construction must abide by the City's fire protection sprinkler code (see the City of Marietta Sprinkler Ordinance for details).

New projects are entirely managed through SagesGov from the comfort of your office! The applicant is able to submit an application and plans for review, pay fees, print a construction permit, request inspections, and print a Certificate of Completion without ever having to come in to the office.

For Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems - Each contractor is responsible for inspections on his permit, which will be unique from the BLDG permit. Yours will begin with FIRE, please have this number available when discussing your project.

Inspectors will not accept hard copies of close-out documentation. All close-out documentation must be uploaded to the project's file in SagesGov. Look for a file request after your 80% inspection. Records of initial acceptance testing on commercial projects must also be filed with our third party reporting partner, IROL (InspectionReportsOnline.net). Applicants will be unable to schedule a 100% inspection without completing this step.
